Ways to Help the Haitian Community in Springfield
2/3/2026 Update: A federal judge issued a last-minute ruling on February 2 blocking Donald Trumpβs effort to end Temporary Protected Status for hundreds of thousands of Haitian immigrants living in the U.S.
TPS, which allows roughly 350,000 Haitians to legally live and work in the country, was set to expire on February 3. That includes about 30,000 Haitians in central Ohio and another 15,000 in Springfield.
The order does not include an expiration date.
2/2/2026 Update: The Trump administration is considering immigration enforcement operations in Ohio that could begin as early as this week. The operation is expected to target Haitian immigrants as Temporary Protected Status for Haiti expires on February 3, ending protections for more than 330,000 people nationwide.
An estimated 12,000 to 15,000 Haitians live in Springfield, Ohio, a community targeted during the 2024 campaign by Donald Trump and JD Vance, who promoted false claims about Haitian immigrants. The city of Springfield has an FAQ page dedicated to responding to these false claims about immigrants living in Springfield.
As Springfield residents hope for the best while preparing for the worst, here are ways you can help.
