Catch a Rising Star 2025

The Delaware County Democratic Party of Ohio is a rising star. Delaware County was one of only three Ohio counties in which Democrats captured a larger vote share than they did four years ago.

Our August 21 Catch A Rising Star fundraiser was a great success. The event was standing room only, and we exceeded our fundraising goal. The positive energy in the room was terrific: What a great evening! Thank you to the Planning Committee for a job well done! And thank you to all of our sponsors and everyone who attended.

We all were inspired by our speakers: Jordan Hawkins, president of Ohio Young Black Dems, gubernatorial candidate Dr. Amy Acton, and candidate for Ohio secretary of state Dr. Bryan Hambley. While Jordan noted (in good humor) that he was the only speaker invited who was not an MD, he started us out with a good dose of optimism and inspiration. He shared his own journey as well as his hope for our political future, noting that Delaware County is moving in a good direction!

Dr. Hambley, a hematologist/oncologist who cares for leukemia patients, said he has seen how exploding healthcare costs bankrupt families. He and his wife, Jana, a trauma surgeon, together decided to fight for people and communities suffering while Ohio’s current legislature ignores the will of citizens and even goes so far as to use misleading ballot language to confuse voters. Hambley, who develops leukemia care programs in under-resourced urban areas, said his goal is to end gerrymandered districts, returning Ohio to free and fair elections. Ohio should work for everyone, Hambley said, not just for the wealthy, influential few.

Dr. Acton said books and public schools helped her survive a difficult childhood that included abuse and homelessness. She took up a career in public health to help those who are inadequately supported by available public services in times of critical need. As Director of the Ohio Department of Health during the COVID pandemic, her actions prevented thousands of deaths in Ohio, and through her daily televised updates, she gained national recognition for her clear, data-driven approach. More recently, through her leadership of the Columbus Foundation, Acton has focused on women’s health and youth homelessness. She is a founder of the Center for Human Kindness and has worked with other programs that focus on making real change in Ohio. She’s running for governor to give Ohio individuals and families more say in their healthcare, their education, and their lives by refocusing state priorities to serve the needs of all.

Of course, you are still welcome to donate to the Delaware County Democratic Party, learn more about Dr. Amy Acton for Governor, and Dr. Bryan Hambley for Ohio Secretary of State.

We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you at future DCDP events.

THANK YOU for supporting Democrats in Delaware County!
