Ohio Has a New Absentee Ballot Deadline
Ohio’s voting laws have changed, and if you plan on voting by mail, you need to be aware of a change to the deadline. Staying informed is the best way to ensure your voice is heard!
What’s Changed?
In previous years, Ohio allowed a small acceptance window after Election Day for mail-in ballots to arrive, as long as they were postmarked by the day before the election.
That window is now closed.
Under the new law, all absentee ballots must be received by your county’s Board of Elections by 7:30 PM on Election Day. If your ballot arrives even one day late, it will not be counted, regardless of when you mailed it.
Play it Safe: Complete Your Absentee Ballot Early! 📬
With the post-election acceptance window gone, the best strategy is to act early. By requesting and completing your ballot now, you can ensure you have plenty of time to research the candidates, fill it out accurately, and get it back in the mail (or drop it off in person) well before the deadline.
How to Request Your Absentee Ballot
If you are a resident of Delaware County, you have two easy ways to get your application:
-
Online: Download and print the absentee ballot request application here: Delaware County Absentee Application
-
By Phone: Call the Delaware County Board of Elections at (740) 833-2080 and ask them to mail an application directly to your home.
The Bottom Line: Don’t wait until the last minute. The USPS can sometimes experience delays, and with the new 7:30 PM Election Day cutoff, every day counts.
Request and complete your ballot early if you plan to vote by mail! 🗳️💪
