State Races are Crucial in 2026
Ohio is not a red state. We are a “rigged” state.
Ohio is often labeled a “red state,” but that label hides a much deeper and more troubling truth. Ohio is not red; it is rigged.
For more than 40 years, Republicans have held power in Ohio through supermajorities built on gerrymandered districts rather than the will of the people. The results speak for themselves: a weakened economy, an underfunded public education system, and a state that now exports one of its most valuable resources, our young people, who leave in search of opportunity elsewhere.
Across the country, politicians are increasingly trying to pick their voters instead of allowing voters to pick their leaders. While partisan redistricting attempts are making headlines in states like Texas and California, there are also examples of courage and accountability. In Indiana, 21 Republican state senators joined all 10 Democrats to defeat a proposed redistricting plan that would have allowed Republicans to flip the state’s only two Democratic congressional seats. That bipartisan stand proves that fair representation is still possible when elected officials choose democracy over party power.
Unfortunately, Ohio’s Republican leadership has taken a different path.
Recently, the Ohio House passed the Charlie Kirk American Heritage Act, legislation that “allows” schools to teach the so-called positive impact of Judeo-Christian religion on American history. At the same time, public education dollars continue to be siphoned away from public schools to fund private, unregulated alternatives. These policies don’t strengthen education; they undermine it and further erode equal opportunity for Ohio’s children.
The Good News: Change Is Possible in 2026
Despite the challenges, there is real hope ahead.
The Delaware County Democratic Party is working tirelessly to overturn one-party rule in our county and across Ohio. Together, we are building the foundation for a state that reflects the values and priorities of the people who live here.
In 2026, we have the opportunity to make meaningful change by electing Democrats to:
- The Ohio General Assembly
- Governor
- Secretary of State
- Other key statewide offices
Ohio’s GOP politicians have made it clear they are not listening to what Ohioans need or want. Replacing them with Democratic leaders is the only way to restore accountability, fairness, and a true voice for the people.
How You Can Help
Real change happens when people show up. There are many ways to be part of the movement to restore democracy and fairness in Ohio:
- Volunteer your time by canvassing, making calls, helping at events, or supporting candidates behind the scenes.
- Donate to support Democratic candidates and party-building efforts in Delaware County and across the state.
- Run for office or encourage someone you trust to run. Local and state races matter more than ever.
- Make your voice heard by talking with friends and neighbors, advocating for fair maps, and holding elected officials accountable.
- Attend DCDP events to stay informed, connect with like-minded neighbors, and help build momentum heading into 2026.
Ohio doesn’t have to stay rigged. With collective action, fair maps, and leaders who prioritize people, we can reclaim our democracy and our future.
