Remembering Roger Myron Van Sickle: A Lifetime of Service to Delaware County
Delaware County lost a dedicated public servant and community leader with the passing of Roger Myron Van Sickle on October 24, 2025.
Born in Columbus in 1944, Roger was a graduate of Elm Valley High School, Otterbein University, and the Institute of Banking. After serving as a sergeant in the Ohio National Guard, he began his professional career at the Delaware County Bank and retired as assistant vice president of Fahey Bank in Marion.
Roger’s impact on Delaware County spanned more than four decades. He served as Delaware Township Trustee from 1986 to 2020, following earlier service as township clerk and zoning board member. Beyond local government, he contributed to numerous boards and organizations, including the Delaware County Trustees Association, SourcePoint, the Delaware County Regional Planning Commission, Oak Grove Cemetery Board, Habitat for Humanity, and Grady Memorial Hospital. His leadership extended to the Delaware County Democratic Party, where he served as both chair and treasurer, and he even ran for county commissioner.
A passionate community volunteer, Roger was also active in civic and historical groups, earning recognition as an Ohio Jaycee State Senator, a Pioneer of Delaware County, and a Kentucky Colonel.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 28, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Snyder Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive, Delaware, OH. Services celebrating Roger’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 29, at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors.
Roger Van Sickle’s legacy of service, leadership, and love for Delaware County will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known him.
