Executive Central Committee Meeting, November 21, 2024

The Delaware County Democratic Party held an Executive Committee Meeting on November 21st, 2024 at Delaware Township Hall. Present in the meeting were 54 individuals, 36 of which were on Executive Committee. The meeting was called to order at 7:07 pm by Chair Peg Watkins. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by State Board of Education Member, Rhonda Johnson.

Old Business

Parliamentarian Liz Osorio provided a Roberts’ Rules reminder to state your name before you speak. Chair Peg Watkins asked for any changes or questions about the minutes from the October Executive Committee meeting. Central Committee Members Suzanne Binau moved to approve the minutes and Molly Yankus seconded the motion. Motion passed.

New Business

Newly elected Ohio State School Board Member, Rhonda Johnson thanked volunteers and shared that she overperformed in Delaware County in her 2024 race. Chair Peg Watkins and former Ohio Dems Regional Manager Gavin Flesch provided highlights of the 2024 election. Voter turnout increased with Delaware County being one of the highest counties in Ohio for turnout. They shared precincts that went blue in our county. Communications Chair Don Swartwout spoke about the success of digital ads to drive traffic to our website.

Westerville School Board Member Louise Valentine shared information about LEAD Academy and the deadline to register. Chair Peg Watkins provided information about the Delaware Dems Holiday Party to be held on December 19th, 2024 at Delaware Township Hall.

Chair Peg Watkins expressed gratitude to all candidates who ran for office in 2024, and stated that we need candidates to run for many local offices in 2025.  Jerrad Christian spoke briefly about his race (US Congress District 12)  and stated he plans to continue working for a better future.

Finding no further new business, Executive Committee member Pam Foster moved to adjourn the meeting. Stephen Schottel seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

Chair Peg Watkins adjourned the meeting at 7:49 p.m.
