Executive Central Committee Meeting, September 12, 2024

The Delaware County Democratic Party held an Executive Committee Meeting on September 12th, 2024 virtually on Zoom. Present in the meeting were 37 individuals, Parliamentarian Louise Douce announced that we had a quorum.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm by Chair Peg Watkins. She informed the group that the meeting is being recorded. Communications Chair Don Swartwout volunteered and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Parliamentarian Liz Osorio gave a brief review of Roberts’ Rules while a slide showing the basics was displayed.

Chair Peg Watkins outlined the agenda for this special meeting and explained why we were meeting by zoom. She gave an update on the Ohio Democratic Party’s plan to create and mail sample ballots, beginning in early October. While ODP is paying most of the costs for the sample ballot program, county parties are asked to pay a part. Delaware County’s portion would be $3,499.50. While DCDP has applied for a grant from ODP to cover that cost, Peg asked for a motion to pay ODP that portion of the expense. Central Committee member Mike Kabler moved, and CC member Emma Jones seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously.

Because the ODP program will not be ready until after our county fair, the Delaware County Democratic Party has ordered 10,000 slate cards to be used for upcoming events such as the Delaware County Fair and First (Delaware city) and Fourth (Westerville) Fridays.

Central Committee Member Louise Valentine spoke about the upcoming Westerville City Schools levy that will be on the ballot this election. She made a motion to have the Delaware County Democratic Party endorse the levy. Central Committee Member Heather Karr seconded the motion and the motion passed.

Peg highlighted upcoming events, and Emma Jones announced a special zoom with Sherrod Brown and the Hispanic Caucus. Joyce Bourgault asked for help with the wagon in downtown Delaware on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The wagon will be in Galena on September 28.

Louise Valentine asked how far down the ballot the ODP slate card will go. Peg said, down to county offices. Mike Kabler announced that Jerrad Christian will host a canvas on Sunday, 1:00 p.m. from Freedom Park, north of Sunbury.

Seeing no further business, Chair Peg Watkins adjourned the meeting at 7:28 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Jenny Yoder, Secretary
