Executive Central Committee Meeting, May 15, 2025
The Delaware County Democratic Party held a meeting on May 15th, 2025 at 7pm at Delaware Township Hall. Present at the meeting were 48 individuals, 33 of whom were members of Executive Committee. Chair Peg Watkins called the meeting to order at 7:09 pm. Central Committee Member Alexandria Jones led the pledge of allegiance.
Roberts Rules Refresher
Chair Peg Watkins provided a Roberts Rules refresher explaining that the meeting proceeds in order and that Parliamentarian Louise Douce would be providing a timer when needed.
Old Business
Minutes from the April meeting were posted on the website. Vice Mayor of Powell Heather Karr moved to approve the minutes from the April meeting and Executive Committee Member Suzanne Binau seconded the motion. Motion passed with no discussion.
New Business
Central Committee Member John Schmarr thanked the party for the contribution to the Delaware Friends of the Library Night at the Races event. The event was attended by a few Delaware Dem 2025 candidates for office.
Chair Peg Watkins shared primary election results. Tyler Frederick, the Democratic Nominee for Delaware Clerk of Courts, thanked those in attendance for their support and asked for volunteers for his campaign. He will be walking in the Powell Memorial Day Parade.
Tiffany deSilva and Lindsay Gillis, candidates for Dublin School Board, Anisa Liban for Westerville School Board, Tara Seward for Dublin School Board, and Ian Anderson for Orange Township Trustee were also in attendance.
Candidate Support Committee Chair Joyce Bourgault shared recommendations from her committee. The committee recommended giving Tyler Frederick for Delaware Clerk of Courts $5,000 for his race along with no party endorsement. Executive Committee Member Joe Diamond moved to approve the motion and Executive Committee Member Eli Wenzel seconded the motion. Following some discussion, the motion passed unanimously.
Fundraising Committee Chair and Central Committee Member Suzanne Binau shared a fundraising report. The Catch a Rising Star (CARS) fundraiser is to be held August 21st, 2025 and will feature Ohio Governor Candidate Amy Acton and Ohio Secretary of State Candidate Bryan Hambley. The committee is looking for sponsors for the event. Committee Member Eli Wenzel stated that we are asking every member of Executive Committee to either buy a $100 ticket or raise an equivalent amount to support this event.
Executive Committee member Ed Helvey made a motion to remove Robert Katula from Executive Committee due to his request to the Ohio Secretary of State to work the May Primary as a Republican poll worker. Central Committee Member Jessica Parent seconded the motion. There was a question about why he could not be removed from Central Committee and Chair Watkins explained that Central Committee members are elected by voters, so no change can be made on that until the next primary. Following discussion the motion passed unanimously.
Central Committee Member Stephen Schottel asked for volunteers for the upcoming 4th Friday in Westerville
Central Committee Member Chandler White moved to adjourn the meeting. Stephen Schottel seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Meeting was adjourned at 7:57pm.
