The Delaware County Democratic Party held an Executive Committee meeting on April 17th 2025 at 7pm at Delaware Township Hall. Present in the meeting were 62 individuals, 32 of whom were members of Executive Committee. Vice Chair Holly Hanson called the meeting to order at 7:05pm. After establishing quorum, Stephen Schottel led the pledge of allegiance.

OLD BUSINESS

Secretary Jenny Yoder asked for any corrections to the January 2025 meeting minutes. Vicki Huttenhoff made a motion to approve the January Minutes and Joe Bjorkman seconded the motion. Following no discussion the meeting minutes were approved.

Treasurer Lisa Saponaro presented a Quarterly Treasurer Report. Eli Wenzel made a motion to approve the Treasurer Report and Jessica Parent seconded the motion. Following no discussion the Quarterly Treasurer Report was approved. 

NEW BUSINESS

The Robert Parker Scholarship Winner Christian Smith was announced and spoke, thanking the Delaware County Democratic Party for the recognition.

John Schmarr announced our sponsorship of the Friends of the Library Night at the Races and asked for name suggestions for the race horses. Written suggestions were passed to John for consideration.

John made a motion to endorse the Delaware County Library Levy for the May 6th election. Linda Diamond seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Delaware County Board of Elections Deputy Director Brian Hester spoke and asked for Poll workers for the May 6th election. Poll workers are especially needed at the Sunbury polling location. 

Candidates in attendance included Olentangy School Board President Brandon Lester, Delaware School Board Candidate Abby Buckerfield, Big Walnut School Board Candidate Jessica Parent, Orange Township Trustee Candidate Ian Anderson and Delaware County Clerk of Court candidates Tyler Frederick and Scott Charland. Scott Charland and Tyler Frederick spoke about their campaigns. 

Central Committee Member and Candidate Support Committee Chair Joyce Bourgault asked for candidates for the November election. Joyce made a motion to add Susan Orcena to Executive Committee to represent Concord A. Suzanne Binau seconded the motion. Vice Chair Holly Hanson read the oath to swear Susan Orcena onto Executive Committee. 

Guest Speaker Ohio Democratic Party Chair Liz Walters spoke to the group about the 2024 election results in Ohio and her plans moving forward. 

Finding no further business, Joe Bjorkman moved to adjourn the meeting. Stephen Schottel seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
