What We Care About
Politics is not about one person
The Democratic Party has a long and proud history of trying to do the
most good for the greatest number of people. Democrats believe we should put people first and support civil liberty and social equality, corporate governance reform, environmental protection, support for organized labor, maintenance and expansion of social programs, affordable college tuition, universal health care, equal opportunity, and consumer protection. We advocate campaign finance reform, LGBTQ+ rights, criminal justice and immigration reform, sensible gun laws.
Our mission is to continue working toward all our important goals by electing the best Democratic leaders at the local, state, and national levels. We do this by focusing on three big priorities:
Energize Local Democrats
Together, we can make a difference. We want to bring local Democrats together in Delaware County and energize them into action. Precinct representatives and other volunteers play a key role in providing information to people in their precinct about what will be on the ballot and how to get additional information about candidates.
In the past, this has included postcard parties, candidate meet and greets or having regular meetups in local coffee shops, restaurants, or other establishments. Reaching out to not just known Democrats, but Independents and Republicans is so important as many people are tired of the failed leadership from the GOP. Will you join us in energizing your neighbors to support Democrats?
Get Democrats Elected
This is an exciting time for our party: we have more Democrats in local offices or running for office in Delaware County than we ever have before! In order to get elected, they need plenty of help.
From working with the party or directly with the candidates’ campaigns, there are many opportunities to support local candidates running for office. Are you ready to pitch in?
Challenge Single-Party Rule
Republicans have long been in most elected offices in our county, but the reality is the majority of voters in Delaware County are unaffiliated with any party.
Whether you are a precinct representative, member, or just getting to know us — we need you. Talk to your neighbors about democratic values, and offer alternatives to single party rule. Will you join us?

I was saddened this week to hear of the passing of Henry Banks. I met Henry in 1996 at an obvious place, a meeting of the Delaware County Democratic Party. Henry was a fixture of the party and had served as Chair and was one of our Democratic members of the Delaware County Board of Elections for 16 years. Along with serving us as a member of the Board of Elections, Henry served for years as a member of the Delaware County Jury Commission.
