The Delaware County Democratic Party is proud to congratulate three local teens for receiving the county party’s Robert E. Parker Scholarship. The party awards these scholarships each year to graduating seniors at area high schools who intend to continue their schooling at the collegiate level. The recipients are:

  • Sydney Dunmire
    • Senior at Delaware Hayes High School
    • Plans to attend George Mason University
  • Noelle Meeker
    • Senior at Olentangy Liberty High School
    • Plans to attend the University of Cincinnati
  • Brennan Pringle
    • Senior at Olentangy Liberty High School
    • Plans to attend Northwestern University

“The competition was extraordinarily stiff this year,” said David Simmons, chair of the Parker Scholarship committee. “The students we chose were all outstanding in all areas and stood out among the applicants.”

Committee members David Simmons, Linda Gaffey and Colleen Huckabee evaluated the applications on the basis of academics, extracurricular school activities, long-term goals and career objectives, political activity, and community activity.

The Parker Scholarship is named after the late Robert E. Parker, a Delaware businessman and  longtime member of the Delaware County Democratic Party. He served as treasurer for the Party for a number of years.

After Parker passed away in 1985, the party created a scholarship in Parker’s honor to be awarded to students at each of the public school districts in the county.

“Robert Parker was a committed member of the Party and believed in what we want to accomplish,” said party chair Peg Watkins. “It is our honor to continue this tradition more than 30 years after he passed away.”
