On Tuesday, May 26, 2020, the Delaware County Democratic Party will hold a reorganization meeting. This process is governed by Ohio law, Ohio Democratic Party (ODP) and Democratic National Committee (DNC) rules, along with our own county party constitution and by-laws.
Who is invited
Those elected on the primary ballot to the Delaware County Democratic Party Central Committee (“members-elect”) will be invited to participate in this meeting, to be held via Zoom on Tuesday, May 26 at 8:00 p.m. Everyone elected to Central Committee will receive an email invitation the day before with login instructions. The meeting will be broadcast on Facebook for the public to have access, as required.
The members-elect will join the meeting via Zoom. It is important to note you MUST have your actual name listed when logging in so those moderating the video conference know who you are when you log in. They will not be able to allow anyone into the virtual meeting if they are not able to identify them on the list of members-elect.
How it will work
The Ohio Democratic Party will host our reorganization meeting, as they are doing for other counties. However, our meeting will be tailored to Delaware County. The meeting will begin with some technical ground rules and details on how things will work to nominate and vote.
In keeping with Article III of the Delaware County Democratic Party Constitution, the meeting will include:
- Swearing in of Central Committee members by a judge.
- Selection of a temporary chairman and secretary chosen from the Elected Members of the Central Committee.
- Election of party Chair, to serve for the next two-year term
- The County Central Committee shall then elect themselves to the County Executive Committee
Additional persons may be added to the Executive Committee after the election of the Chair. Since these people will have the right to vote for the other party officers, they will be invited to a second meeting on June 2, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. to elect these officers (two vice-chairpersons, a treasurer and secretary).
If you have questions about this process, contact party chair Peg Watkins.
