It’s days before the 2019 election, and so we are in the home stretch. Each election that we can build up the vote share of Democratic candidates will help others in the next election. As our candidates AND their supporters gain experience in how to campaign right here in Delaware County, we will be doing our part to increase the chances of winning at state and national levels. As the nation turns its eyes on Ohio, and Delaware County in particular, we need to show that we support our candidates up and down the ticket.
Early Voting started on October 8, and many of us have already taken advantage of that opportunity. On Election Night November 5, these will be the first results counted and published.
Many voters choose to vote in person on Election Day, and there will be opportunities for “poll standers” to provide a sample ballot in the Westerville area, and candidate literature in other locations. Our candidates have been working hard and asking for help, please do all that you can to get them elected! This year, our local party had a record setting fundraiser to support local candidates, and we were able to donate a total of $5,000. This is significant at the local level, but we need to continue to set our sights higher.
Candidates need your help with: canvassing, displaying yard signs, talking to your neighbors, voting and taking friends and neighbors to the polls, and donations! Go to their websites to see where they will be and when.
Shortly after November 5, we are looking at deadlines for candidates to file for the March 17, 2020 Primary. These include getting elected to our Party’s Central Committee. This nominating petition requires no signature other than your own, but must be submitted by December 18 at 4 p.m.
Another opportunity to be involved with national elections is applying to be a delegate to the DNC Convention in Milwaukee next year. Applications will be available November 1. See Ed Helvey’s article, below, to learn more.
